Many people who live in northern or central California see vineyards and wineries all the time. Some may have a passion for wine and others may just appreciate the importance of wine to the California economy. However, anyone can enjoy partaking in the wine making process. Try it out at the 17th Annual Calaveras Grape Stomp. You’ve probably seen the I Love Lucy episode where Lucy gets in the big barrel and stomps grapes, but here is your chance to live it yourself. At the Calaveras Grape Stomp, teams of two, the Swabber and a Stomper, have three minutes to try and stomp the most juice out wine grapes. Prizes are awarded to all the winners. Participants are encouraged to dress in costume and prizes are awarded to costumers based on originality, design, and effort.
Whether or not you are doing the stomping yourself or just watching other people make fools out of themselves, there is still a ton to do. With many vendors to visit, and a silent and call auction, there is plenty to keep you busy. You could bid on wine tours, gourmet dinners, ski packages, and other exciting prizes.
This year’s Calaveras Grape Stomp is on Saturday October 2, 2010. It begins at 9:30am and ends at 5:00pm. The website is http://www.calaverasgrapestomp.com/ to sign up. Happy Stomping!
