I loved the fact that it was a quick walk to the private lake,
downtown, and to the pee wee golf course. My kids had a blast in Twain
Harte... Great Vacation!

Undoubtedly the Glacier Point is associated with comments such as 'The point
of ecstasy', 'The discovery of a marvelous vista', 'Nature's honey moon
resort'... What makes the Glacier Point a class apart from the numerous tourist
destinations in the US and the world at large? Is it the fact that it is
situated 3200feet above the Yosemite Valley and stretched across the north and
the east over countless forests and meadows and also the higher mountains of the
National Park, or is it because of the viewpoint which includes the Vernal and
Nevada Falls along the course of the Little Yosemite Valley?
The Glacier Point is truly a paradise for your senses. Could it have been
better, I don't think so. What more could you want? Go north and visit the
canyon of Tenaya Creek. Better still watch the Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls
cascading 2400feet down the cliff. Do you want more? Read on.
You surely want to visit the Glacier Point after hearing so much hype about it.
Believe me, the Glacier Point is the one of the easiest elevated areas of the US
to access. All you need to take is a paved 16mile road from the Chinquapin
Junction. The only drawback is that the road is seasonal, that is June to
October. However there is good news to back it up, limited access to cross
country skiers is allowed. If you want an alternative path, you don't need to be
disheartened for you can even take the Four Mile Trail which links the Southside
Drive in the valley below to the Glacier Point. Now tell me, which other
elevated area is easier to access than the Glacier Point?
For the camping lot, there is much at the Glacier Point. In fact one of the
reasons why you should visit the Glacier Point is to set up a camp there. There
is even an official campground at Bridalveil Creek which leads to the starting
point of two main trails into the south of the wilderness areas of the Park. Can
you imagine, all the 110 sites are well apart from each other and each of them
has its own benches, fire grills and all other necessary facilities? Moreover a
slow but clear moving creak borders the camp which falls into the Yosemite
Valley prior to its merger with the Merced River.
A hundred meters deep into the surrounding forests is followed by loss of sight
of Homo sapiens accompanied by pin drop silence. Moreover all there are shadows
and darkness to haunt the hell out of you. Squirrels and deer are common here
with an occasional bear sight in the camp side. But the place gives an
impression as if a lion may emerge from the undergrowth. Now, isn't this a real
horror story?
For those who have visited the Glacier Point in the remote past must be ware of
the weekly large bonfires which used to be lit on the top of the cliffs and used
to fall over the forests from a height of 3000feet. This burning mass was termed
'firefall'. However this practice has now been stopped and it would be futile to
visit the park for this. However there are many more reasons why you should
visit the Glacier Point, am I not correct?
Grassy meadows, small lakes, mountain streams and rocky tops are something get
ever the strongest of teens or nature non-lovers hooked. There is something
about nature that induces a sense of pleasure, an addiction within you.
Fortunately, the Glacier Point has too much of that something which brings
heaven down to earth, however only few lucky personnel get a chance to
experience this wonder!
