It is located about 25 miles east of Sonora and about 20 miles east of Twain Harte. It is located within Stanislaus National Forest. There are three forks of river that flow into Cherry Lake: East, North, and West Forks. They all begin in the Emigrant Wilderness. Cherry Lake is at a 4700 feet elevation.
