Emigrant Wilderness is a wilderness area located within the Stanislaus National Park which is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is 25 miles long and 15 miles in width. Cherry Lake is an artificial lake created by the Cherry valley Dam on Cherry Creek. It is located about 25 miles east of Sonora and about 20 miles east of Twain Harte. It is located within Stanislaus National Forest. There are three forks of river that flow into Cherry Lake: East, North, and West Forks. They all begin in the Emigrant Wilderness.
